In the spring of 1997, I found about 5 Action 52 NES carts boxed and sealed in Pathmark, of all places! They remained on the shelf for about two months, and only one was sold. Interestingly, they were $50 each, so I didn't buy it. Then, Mother's Day weekend 1997, my mom got sick and we didn't go food shopping that week. That was the week I was going to buy an Action 52. I saved up my money, and I was going to get it. Unfortunately, I would have to wait until next week. A strange thing happened that weekend. They marked Action 52 down to 10 bucks. They sold like hotcakes, and there were no more left the following week I moped around the store that day because I lost the opportunity to buy 52 games. My mom didn't get it, and she told me she was embarrassed of me for being so upset. Back then, I didn't know the Action 52 games were so bad, so I was reasonably annoyed. Later, we talked to the woman who ran the department, and she said that they just happened to find them in the back, and she put them on the shelf. That's when I found out that they were marked down to 10 bucks and sold.
Nowadays, I'm not so annoyed about it. After buying my fair share of Color Dreams/Wisdom Tree games, I've given up collecting crappy games just because they're rare. I guess it all worked out right in the end.
Hey TRM, I love the site! Yeah, I'm the same guy who wrote that CPS Player article. (And check out what I dug up a month or two ago: assembler.roarvgm.com/CPS_CHANGER/cps_changer.html) Sorry I kept you hanging for so long with that pirate Famicom Super Joy II article. I wrestled with the idea, and although my model is better than most other models from seemingly the same manufacturer (less duplicate built in games), you can find reviews for slightly less quality models on the internet, it's not as different as I originally thought. I might still write it. Anyway, I'm still a big fan of TWZ. Too bad you don't have the board there anymore. I still check the site every day for updates ;D
Well, good luck with both sites
