I don't think it's that complicated. In late 1980s/early 1990s, it was just extremely fashionable to cash in on Cute Characters... TMNT was doing fine, so there was bound to be shoddy knockoffs. It's as simple as that. In other words, I don't think they specifically tried to profit from furries, they just tried to get money from Whatever Sells At The Time.  |
